How to Calculate Your Life Path Number (Step-by-Step)

Your Life Path Number is the most talked-about number in numerology. It is worked out from your date of birth and is said to describe the themes that follow you through life: your natural strengths, your recurring lessons and the kind of work or relationships that feel most like you.

Numerology is a belief system, not a science, so treat the result as a prompt for self-reflection rather than a prediction. Many people enjoy it because it gives them a fresh way to think about their own habits.

How to calculate it

1. Reduce the day of your birth to a single digit by adding its digits (15 becomes 1 + 5 = 6).
2. Reduce the month the same way (March is 3, November is 11).
3. Reduce the year by adding all four digits, then adding again if needed (1995 becomes 1 + 9 + 9 + 5 = 24, then 2 + 4 = 6).
4. Add the three results together and reduce once more until you reach a single digit.

The one exception: if you land on 11, 22 or 33, these are called Master Numbers and are normally kept as they are.

A worked example

Take 15 March 1995. The day gives 6, the month gives 3 and the year gives 6. Together that is 6 + 3 + 6 = 15, and 1 + 5 = 6. The Life Path Number is 6.
